Dear Pastors & Church Boards.
This past Sunday the SNEC ExCom added a policy which will give some clarity to our need to suspend the operations in our church buildings. Here is the policy,
Church Services & School Operations Closure During Crisis Situations
In the event of an emergency — local, state, or national — the Administrative Committee (AdCom) has the authority to mandate that church(es) and/or school(s) buildings close for programming, worship, instruction, and places of meeting. AdCom can modify the closures to match reasonable requests. This mandate can last up to three (3) weeks. If the closure needs to extend beyond three weeks then AdCom must receive the support of the SNEC Executive Committee (ExCom).
AdCom has indeed voted that all SNEC Churches should suspend all worship and programming operations in their buildings or their rental buildings through April 7, 2020.
As a conference we do this voluntarily to demonstrate our desire to be good citizens.
Each church board needs to be mindful of the federal, states, and town mandates. Please do your best to follow these. Of course, I do think it is fine to put a skeleton crew in your church to broadcast as digital service option. And, of course, our churches who are providing food banks throughout the week may continue their service to the community.
Last Sabbath, despite the difficult circumstances there were many golden testimonies told of how our church families connected by technology. Please continue to make those connections. Find those people who were missed last Sabbath and include them this Sabbath.
God bless you in this difficult time.
David
